Benthic Macroinvertebrate Analysis Many benthic macroinvertebrates are relatively sessile in their life cycle within a water matrix. Assemblages of benthic macroinvertebrates are made up of species that have a broad range of trophic levels and pollution tolerances. Using these known facts, a benthic macroinvertebrate analysis can give an assessment of site-specific impacts of point and non-point pollution within the aquatic environment. This analysis is an excellent tool for monitoring total maximum daily loads (TMDLs), watershed and water quality studies. Benthic macroinvertebrate analysis follows USEPA procedures in Rapid Bioassessment Protocols for Use in Wadeable Streams and Rivers, second edition. Analysis Request Form (pdf)
